A new Scottish Benihana outpost reinterprets brand conventions with a narrative that highlights the legacy of founder Hiraoki “Rocky” Aoki. DesignLSM crafts the interior with subversive visual nods that evoke the energy and truth of the brand and achieve a hypnotic effect.
Located on Glasgow’s West Nile Street, the restaurant features a storefront of timber lattice screens reminiscent of Shoji screens. The dramatic cocktail bar also features traditional Noren screens suspended above banquette seats alongside a hanging pendant that further illuminates the refined palette of polished plaster, pale oak, and charred timber. Bold tones of black and red also echo the origins of the brand. Bespoke dining structures form the focal backdrop of the restaurant, which is also endowed with five cooking stations at the core and four additional stations lining the perimeter. Manga illustrations adorn floor tiles as well as wall artwork.
