UK studio DesignLSM has unveiled its design of a new F&B venue, Klosterhaus, located in the English city of Bristol. Housed within an 18th-century Quaker meeting house, the concept accentuates the site’s Neoclassical architecture, which echoes the minimalist principles of the Klassizismus movement in Germany.
“It was very important to us that we respected the DNA of the building and were extremely sensitive when unifying the original architecture with a contemporary design approach,” says DesignLSM senior designer Tom Munson. “We wanted to ensure that our design celebrated the building’s dramatic splendor by taking influence from the distinctive lines and shapes of the architecture. We developed the narrative around this whilst also encapsulating the vibrant sprit of the European-mittel café scene alongside the subtle references to Bristol’s rich history.”
On the ground floor, the cocktail bar serves as the central focal point, along with a striking metal fretwork staircase that further heightens the drama. Illuminated wine walls and decorative pendant lights elegantly highlight bespoke arched metal screens set against a backdrop of brass, warm timber, stone, and velvet upholstery. Rich terracotta tones and deep greens also accentuate the design’s historic elements. DesignLSM collaborated with art consultancy Studio2c to develop elegant contemporary iconography that animates the interior with a flexible visual language.
