Avenue Interior Design and HKS partnered to create Edison House, a members-only social club located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Design-driven and communal, the new 30,000-square-foot destination comprises restaurants, bars, private event spaces, a live entertainment venue, a fitness center, and an outdoor pool lounge all unified by a distinguished, elevated aesthetic.
“We were inspired primarily by the strong lines, intricate details, and rich materials that accompany high-end industrial design,” says Avenue Interior Design cofounder and principal Andrea DeRosa. “Our goal was to give each space its own identity by layering handcrafted furnishings and fixtures with decadent but familiar finishes. By approaching each space as a ‘jewel box,’ we wanted guests to feel intrigued and excited as they experienced each venue.”
Beyond a sophisticated materiality, each venue within Edison House evokes its own identity through unique applications of modern materials. Warm woods, brickwork, and metal conjure an industrial vernacular, while rich, textured fabrics infuse regal gold, green, and blue hues across the interior. In addition to Instagrammable moments—like the velvety green, diamond-tufted walls that wrap the Jazz Parlor and the 40 disco balls that line the ceiling of the karaoke room—metallic jungle murals animate restrooms and cheeky artwork also add a dash of whimsy and wonder to the design.
The inspiration for Edison House had started as an elevated “home away from home” concept, with the clients’ interest in creating a space where there could be something for everyone, and feel new and aspirational without being pretentious,” adds Avenue senior project designer MacKenzie Bergeron. “In contrast to the individual neighboring hotels or restaurants emerging in the downtown area, Edison House offers a kind of one-stop-shop of curated experiences.”
