With exposed brick, an unexpected pink double-sided fireplace, and a classic pool table and jukebox, The Flower Shop in New York City’s Lower East Side has debuted, setting a new standard for the neighborhood bar. It’s the latest concept from Eldridge Hospitality, featuring an elevated traditional Americana menu from chef Michael Hamilton.
An F&B dream team was assembled led by veteran William Tisch, former project manager at New York/New Jersey Super Bowl Host Committee and Major Food Group; Ronnie Flynn, former creative marketing and promotion director for The Butter Group; Dylan Hales, partner of The Randolph Group; and Dave Turner, former financial controller at Major Food Group. Interior designer Jeanette Dalrot added unique twists to the furnishings, such as botanical upholstered booths, while architect Sebastian Quinn kept the space more traditional.
The 3,600-square-foot bi-level space exudes the grittiness of a classic dive bar, reminiscent of iconic pubs and taverns such as Cheers and Minetta Tavern, with low ceilings, plush seating, a fish tank, and saloon-styled paintings and photography. “We wanted to create a vibe that felt like you were in your living room, surrounded by friends,” says Hales. The true standout feature is a commanding 30-foot-long mural dubbed “The Odyssey of Downtown New York Debauchery,” which was commissioned by Australian sketch artist Anouk Colantoni, who spent three months sketching provocative scenes portraying New York from the lens of an outsider.
