Hawaii’s five-star Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has unveiled a reimagining of its oceanfront flagship dining concept, Ferraro’s Restaurant & Bar.
The extensive design transformation was spearheaded by Venice, California-based firm Studio Collective.
Connecting Ferraro’s to its surroundings
Perched above the shoreline of Wailea Beach, the newly transformed Ferraro’s embraces the soul of the island and the spirit of la dolce vita—the sweet life.
Upon entering Ferraro’s, the 192-seat oceanfront concept captures the essence of the local environment and landscape with vibrant new landscaping and potted plants that create an al fresco charm.
“In its previous iteration, Ferraro’s was somewhat secluded and hidden,” explains Adam Goldstein, partner and design director of Studio Collective. “Our intent was to open it up a bit, connecting it to its beautiful surroundings as well as to the hotel itself. As guests approach the newly designed entrance just off the adjacent pool area, visually obtrusive hedges were removed and replaced with lower plantings allowing for clear sightlines into the space, providing a warm and inviting entrance.”
Inside the transformed resort restaurant
Once inside, diners are greeted by an expansive three-sided bar that’s been updated with a marble bar top, tiled bar face, and custom back bar display featuring an inset bronze mirror that reflects the sunset and ocean.
Plush sofa groupings upholstered in a rich navy fabric line the southern perimeter of the space, while a range of dining groupings on the upper and lower decks are arranged to maximize unobstructed sunset views. Handcrafted ivory and indigo ceramic tiles, inspired by the colors and textures of Maui, applied to the tabletop insets serve as striking decorative accents, too.
A custom teak trellis, meanwhile, unifies the upper dining patio, bar, and piazza areas.
“The story of the space is really the site,” Goldstein adds. “Our vision for Ferraro’s 2.0 embraces the soul of the island, integrating contemporary sophistication with a welcoming, residential charm.”
