All-day café Great White has debuted its third Los Angeles outpost in West Hollywood. Developed as a community and cultural hub, Great White evokes a laidback coastal sensibility while maintaining the brand’s signature European-style café ambiance across the 5,000-square-foot space.
“The inspiration comes from the coast—not just one, but several different coasts. Similar to our other locations, we’ve pulled influences from different parts of Australia, Mexico, and Europe and combined them to give Great White – Melrose a uniquely Californian feel,” says Great White cofounder and creative director Sam Cooper. “In West Hollywood, there’s not many hospitality venues with open concepts like ours. That’s why we felt it was important to have visibility from the street. The space was very intentionally developed to create a relationship with the neighborhood.”
The new Great White location welcomes visitors with a striking pink façade inspired by Cooper’s own childhood home in Australia. Tuscan plaster, limestone, and travertine reflect the café’s myriad influences and inject tactility alongside century-old wood reclaimed from an Idaho barn and 150-year-old repurposed cobblestone sourced in Berlin. Handwoven pendants from Pakistan further elevates the standard of craftsmanship on display, while an expansive painting by Berlin-based artist Danny Gretscher serves as a key focal point. An intimate outdoor private dining room accommodates up to a dozen guests as well.
