The latest outpost of Chinese tea chain HEYTEA has opened in the Hongqiao Xintiandi neighborhood of Shanghai with a design by local architecture firm DAS Lab.
Spread across nearly 1,300 square feet, the design of the new location is based on creating familiar focal points, the reproducibility of materials and crafts, and an internationalized aesthetic that references contemporary symbols.
In contrast to the stainless steel shell of the space, red mortar adorns the interior and showcases a texture reminiscent of rammed earth, which is a traditional material in Chinese construction. Natural light is infused through both the store’s rectangular façade and the skylights that puncture the oblique, double-height ceiling.
