Shanghai-based design practice Studio8 has completed the new dining concept Inkwood in its hometown’s mixed-use development Columbia Circle. The 3,200-square-foot venue reflects a fusion of Eastern and Western influences in both cuisine and decor.
The design explores the connection between ink and wood, particularly in the color palette. Dark green panels on the bottom half of the walls give the illusion that the restaurant is soaked in ink, while mustard yellow tones absorb and reflect light to instill a warm ambiance across the interior. A brass stripe at the entrance is installed with a parallel LED light on the floor that branches toward the kitchen window, pointing to the heart of the restaurant. The stripe motif is inspired by the Inkwood logo, which comprises a golden stroke.
Set against a backdrop of curated artwork and custom accessories, a variety of seating configurations span the dining room. A communal chef’s table sits before the kitchen window to provide elevated views into the restaurant.
