A contemporary interpretation of Japanese culture and cuisine, IYO Aalto, has joined Milan’s restaurant scene. Designed by locally based architect Maurizio Lai, the new restaurant is the second concept in the IYO portfolio.
IYO Aalto defies stereotypes of design convention with a “rising sun” motif that appears across more than 3,400 square feet. Floating glass and smoked mirrors incite an interplay of transparency and reflection, while a palette of natural materials—walnut, porphyry, brass, and leather—infuse a sense of elegance.
An intimate sushi room accommodates eight diners at a Canaletto walnut counter accented by black elm barstools upholstered in leather. The 38-seat dining room comprises wooden tables with brass in-lay and a glass-clad ceiling. The kitchen serves as the nucleus of the interior, enclosed in glass to showcase the action throughout the dining experience.
