Montreal-based architect David Dworkind has completed work on the Lebanese bakery and café Jouney in the downtown section of the Quebec city. Named for owner Patrick Abdelahad’s hometown of Jouneih, a coastal region north of Beirut, the 1,750-square-foot space is designed with simple materials inspired by the tiled rooftops of Lebanon.
The concept’s long, narrow footprint informed the bench seating and swivel tables attached to the exposed brick wall. A variety of seating options also span the interior, including banquettes and barstools. Abundant greenery juxtaposes ash wood tables and chairs, powdercoated steel, brown leather, and terracotta tiling. A curved counter clad with wood slats on its face greets diners, while the upper level dining section is outfitted with large mirrors.
