London-based B3 Designers completed Latin-Asian fusion concept Juan, the latest addition to the F&B lineup at the Galleria Mall Al Wasl, Dubai. The design of the 80-seat indoor-outdoor restaurant draws upon the immigration experiences of Asian farmers and artists to Latin American during the 19th and 20th centuries to establish a warm but lively atmosphere.
“The goal was to create interiors that showcased the blend of these two cultures through stories of people,” the firm says. “We drew inspiration from bodegas that may have been owned by Asian immigrants to Latin America. We wanted guests to feel like they were in a modern restaurant owned by one of these families.”
Polynesian patterns accent soft textures, woven colonial furniture, and greenery to distinguish Juan among other onsite eateries. A distressed wall of terracotta tiles injects a rough tactility into the space while also showcasing a mural of portraits meant to represent the family serving as the muse of the design. Tiles also adorn the fluted face of the omakase bar, which is topped with green marble as a nod to traditional colors and Latin American joinery. Trapezium extensions further grow its influence in the design, accommodating dining islands that offer intimacy. Timber ceiling structures suspended drop fans over diners along with pendant lamps arranged in clusters of three.
