Restaurateur Mark Barak has launched La Pecora Bianca, an all-day Italian restaurant in New York’s NoMad district.
Designed by locally based Nemaworkshop and Chiara de Rege Interiors, the restaurant is repurposed from the St. James building—the former home of Havana Tobacco Company. The casually refined concept retains a variety of the historic building’s design features, including a white marble staircase that once led to a basement-level cigar humidor and a marble column that was renovated in the restaurant’s open-style kitchen.
A marble-clad standing espresso bar transitions to an aperitivo bar at night, while a 34-seat sidewalk café offers an outdoor experience.
Interiors nod to Italian farmhouses and modern country kitchens with reclaimed terracotta aspects, European oak plank floors, custom wood plank tables, and handpainted custom wall tiles throughout the open kitchen and backbar area.
