Lalou is set to debut this fall in the bustling corner of West Hollywood’s Melrose Avenue. The Provençal-inspired restaurant is being designed by London- and Los Angeles-based studio Fettle under the guidance of owners Marissa and Matt Hermer of Boujis Group.
Stepping into the former location of the iconic Ago restaurant, Lalou reinvents the space to offer an 8,900-square-foot haven inspired by the classic European gardens of the 1920s and ’30s. With a significant focus on outdoor dining, the restaurant will offer one of the most extensive al fresco dining spaces in Los Angeles.
Lalou’s design weaves the South of France and Italy’s aura with the vibrancy of Los Angeles. Rich textures and geometric patterns are emphasized throughout the space, complemented by lush landscaping. A standout feature will be a 30-seat exterior bar—guarded by two impressive nine-foot-tall fountains—in the expansive garden, an area filled with whimsical details and references to folklore protagonists. Outdoor dining terraces with upholstered banquettes and pleated umbrellas will gracefully wrap the central bar as well.
Moving indoors, Lalou promises an intimate, jewel box-like dining room that oversees an open kitchen that offers a chef’s counter seating experience. The interior will feature custom Italian-style chandeliers and gold mohair banquettes that create a late-night restaurant and bar scene that is as inviting as it is glamorous.
