Nigerian pop-up concept Little Lagos has found a permanent home in the Newtown section of Sydney, Australia. Crafted by Melbourne-based multidisciplinary designer Sandra Githinji, the interior is conceived to amplify the vibrancy of Nigerian cuisine with a color palette inspired by capsicums, chillies, and tomatoes.
A contemporary framework of pale blonde timber forms a backdrop for traditional craftsmanship and textiles, like indigo-dyed cotton cloth Adire, which wraps the restaurant’s 32-foot-long banquette. One of the walls also showcases a range of works by locally based artists. The dining room was also constructed to host performances on weekends in order to extend a platform to the nearby creative community.
