Designed by locally based Hodgkinson Design, a new annex provides bedrooms for the members of the Frontline Club, a private members media club run by Vaughan Smith. It is located in a building directly across the street from the club itself in the Paddington area.
“The club member arrives back in London from their travels abroad to a classic London townhouse environment, with all the facilities one would expect, in a stylish environment, conveniently located opposite the original clubhouse and restaurant,” says Hodgkinson Design managing director Andrew Hodgkinson.
The annex was formerly divided into a shop on the ground floor, with flats above. In the contemporary redesign, each of the bedrooms is adorned with a large-scale photograph of a journalistically historic event taken by one of the club’s members. The shop is occupied by KiosKafé, which is run by the Monocle media group.
“We are very excited about our new annex which provides smart and comfortable bedrooms and en suite bathrooms for our members,” says Smith. “We had to get a planning change of use for the building, which was our first hurdle. Then we had to refurbish the building, which hadn’t been touched for many a year.”
