M.Bird has debuted in Tampa as Florida’s newest rooftop spot. Located atop the mixed-use Armature Works building in the Tampa Heights neighborhood, the concept from New York-based design firm Dutch East Design frames panoramic views of the Hillsborough River across 3,500 square feet of both covered and uncovered spaces.
Named for the state bird, the mockingbird, the design evokes Brazilian modernism with tropical details and warm millwork that offsets the industrial flair of the 1910-built building. At the entrance is a sprawling geometric mural wrapping an exterior wall in a pattern that mirrors the repetitive installation of sconces. Sheltered areas are clad with exposed, tropical hardwood trusses painted a lush shade of green reminiscent of native Florida flora. Open areas are populated with umbrellas and palm trees to provide some relief from the sun.
