Major Food Group is set to debut its newest concept within the former home of New York’s iconic Four Seasons Restaurant. The Pool Room will be unveiled later this month, restored by architect Annabelle Selldorf and designer William T. Georgis.
The landmark dining room will be clad with bold blue and pearlescent tones reminiscent of the sea and the room’s history. An abstracted fish sculpture from Alexander Calder will be suspended above classic furniture finished in velvet and leather. A soaring plant sculpture by American artist Paula Hayes will greet guests along with artwork sourced from 1958—the year the Seagram Building debuted in New York. An amber glow will emanate from the glass-walled nook installed before the restored wine room, where rows of 20 backlit bottles will serve as a modern light sculpture. The interior’s famed chain curtains as well as original glass walls, steel beams, and recessed ceiling light fixtures will be refreshed, while new carpeting will complement elements old and new.
A former disused private dining room will debut as the new bar concept the Pool Lounge. Overlooking the Pool Room, the space will be outfitted with four large mirrors on its back wall to reflect the action and design of the dining room. Cocktail tables crafted from onyx and nickel will be installed alongside modern floor lamps designed by Georgis, who also oversaw the creation of the space’s Mother of Pearl bar and deep blue wall textiles.
