Chef and owner John Doherty has opened Black Barn restaurant, located on Madison Square Park in Manhattan.
Conceived by New York-based designer Mark Zeff, the New American eatery features a modern, barn-inspired aesthetic that takes design cues from Zeff’s eponymous BLACKBARN homes, developed in the Hamptons.
The restaurant opens upon a 60-seat bar and café area. Here, more than 20 backlit barn-sash windows surround a bar with raw granite countertops and stools upholstered in hand-stitched Spanish leather. Coarse wood café tables stand out with iron detailing amongst industrial light fixtures, while plush banquets are clad in deep blue linen upholstery.
Toward the back, an 88-seat dining room features unfinished oak floors, vintage farm equipment, brown and black wood tables with perforated-steel candleholders, and steel T-bar utensil rests. The focal point is an open-style kitchen situated beneath an expansive ceiling with farmhouse rafters and light fixtures strung from chains.
Four private dining rooms are also available to seat more than 100 guests.
