Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS) has completed the retro-modern Café Boulud at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto.
Suspended above street level, the French brasserie features a midcentury-inspired aesthetic that has been playfully reinterpreted with contemporary furnishings and a warm color palette.
“There is something strong yet simple about midcentury design that creates harmony in an interior, and we wanted to build on this balance with Café Boulud,” says MBDS founder Martin Brudnizki. “The end result is an abstraction of midcentury design principles, as each element evokes the period, but takes on a contemporary element to ensure the interior exudes an elevated sense of intrigue and quality.”
Interiors feature ribbed banquets upholstered in jaguar green and tan leather with tweed detailing, 1950s-inspired chairs in oxblood-ruched leather, blue herringbone wallpaper, walnut elements, and lava stone corner tables. A line of 14 bespoke double-pendant lights pop with brass details across the center of the room.
The restaurant’s highlight, however, is an intimate, marble-topped dining counter with wood panels painted in a high-gloss lacquer and eight oxblood leather bar stools.
In addition, a private dining room is available for up to eight guests.
