Mexico City-based firm Francisco Pardo Arquitecto has completed work on Milán 44, which arrives as part of the city’s revitalization efforts in Colonia Juarez. Designed in collaboration with architect Julio Amezcua, the project transforms a four-story warehouse from the early 20th century into an urban marketplace that links two contrasting spaces.
The original framework of the structure is exposed in the bilevel market as well as onsite restaurants and private commercial venues such as a barbershop and yoga studio. A green staircase has been installed to generate a more organic vertical circulation, offer access to the public beer bar on the top floor, and promote exploration among visitors.
“Through it, the street folds to the inside and upwards,” says Francisco Pardo. “It’s like a vortex that transversely crosses the building, pulling the street right up to the rooftop.”
