London design studio A-nrd has crafted the new all-day café Milk Beach Soho, an Australian concept from restaurateur Elliot Milne. Located in the central London’s Ilona Rose House development, the restaurant channels the eponymous Sydney beach through Art Deco details, an eclectic materiality, and laidback ambiance.
“We wanted to create a transportive environment with the design concept for Milk Beach Soho,” says A-nrd founder Alessio Nardi. “Our love of natural materials and paired back yet warm interiors really shows through in the project. It’s a successful mix of laid-back authenticity with an elevated sophistication. We have played with tonality and texture throughout the space and used the project as an opportunity to showcase a mix of our own studio’s bespoke furniture design alongside some incredible lighting and contemporary fine artists.”
The bright and airy interiors, complete with a palette of neutral tones, evoke a sunny day on the coast. Opulent terrazzo floors line the space along with walls textured with stucco and limewash, and ceilings outfitted with textured oak beams. Detailed with oak slats and countertops, a curvaceous cocktail bar anchors the Art Deco aesthetic and even nods to the Sydney Opera House with shimmering, glazed off-white tiles that adorn the backbar. Timber and rattan chairs also infuse a handmade quality across Milk Beach, while custom sofa seating comprises chunky oak bases and textured, geometric fabrics. A sweeping banquette composed of slatted oak and creamy leather upholstery also makes a statement beneath Japanese paper wall lights that illuminate the restaurant.
Milk Beach Soho also features a spacious courtyard equipped to accommodate 65 guests across a mix of wooden bistro tables and chairs enlivened with colorful cushions.
