Baranowitz + Kronenberg has unveiled Mr Porter London, an atmospheric restaurant conceived in collaboration with Amsterdam-based the Entourage Group.
The 2,297-square-foot dining destination is tucked beneath the Hilton Park Lane hotel in London’s Mayfair neighborhood, drawing inspiration from the hidden Tyburn River that flows beneath the city.
From the street, the entry is deliberately understated. A single copper door opens to a monochrome foyer and spiral staircase that descends into an immersive subterranean space.
Design dualities at Mr Porter London
Designed as an homage to the district’s 18th-century legacy of indulgence and commerce, the interior design invites guests to leave the city behind and enter a world of reflection, depth, and dualities—surface and subterranean, sensual and cerebral. The concept challenges the archetype of the steakhouse, introducing what the designers describe as a “ladies’ steakhouse,” thanks to elegant, lean, and layered elements.
The material palette is rich yet restrained with brushed metals, natural stone, and velvet upholstery in brass, copper, and gold hues animated by grazing light. Plush velvet cushions and stone accents cradle guests in a space that feels both infinite and personal, while a mirrored copper ceiling hovers above the dining room, doubling the space visually and creating a sense of verticality and immersion.
At the heart of the restaurant sits a 360-degree bar, framed by varied seating configurations, designed for both intimacy and connection. A high-fidelity sound system and live DJ program further blur the boundaries between dining and experience.
