Chef Jean-Gorges Vongerichten has launched his newest culinary concept, the Fulton on Pier 17, in the revitalized Seaport District of New York. Named in homage to the former Fulton Fish Market that stood near Jean-George’s Lower Manhattan eatery, the restaurant frames views of the city’s East River.
New York- and Toronto-based Yabu Pushelberg collaborated with fellow New York architectural practice Cass Calder Smith on the design of the bilevel restaurant. The Fulton on Pier 17 comprises an array of different dining spaces, from sheltered indoor-outdoor spots on both levels to an intimate private dining room overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge.
Whimsical, handpainted murals depicting underwater scenery from artists Chandler Noah and Diego Castaño of New York-based design studio En Viu complement nautical light fixtures reminiscent of buoys. A perimeter of banquettes surround the upstairs oyster bar, which also features dining and lounge seating.
