Iconic Amsterdam library and community hub OBA Oosterdok has returned from s yearlong renovation with a series of upgrades from locally based architecture and design firm Tank. In addition to new study facilities, the institution is now home to a dining concept on the seventh floor named Babel. Inspired by the diverse cuisine of the Dutch locale, Babel is anchored by a central open kitchen, while a transparent beam extends across the kitchen into the dining room to ensure design uniformity.
A central staircase provides access to the heart of the space past a cupboard wall of herbs that enhances the overall sensory experience. The dining room exudes warmth and coziness with a natural wood palette and large sofas and communal tables. The ceiling beams promote inclusivity, adorned with various greetings in different languages. The order and pick-up counter injects color into the space thanks to a deep yellow finish, while greenery infuses a touch of the outdoors across the interior.
