New York-based gourmet market Dean & Deluca has expanded its existing footprint in the Big Apple with the launch of a new concept in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. German architect Ole Scheeren oversaw the design of Stage, which emphasizes a celebration of culture and food. Anchored by a palette of polished stainless steel, Stage draws upon the rich heritage and traditions of New York through a contemporary lens.
“I conceived Stage as a social magnet, as a spectacular futuristic showpiece that attracts and brings people together and encourages interaction between the people making and the people consuming food,” Scheeren says. “Stage embodies an interactive, contemporary notion of culture. The idea, with its reference to a theatrical setting, opens a wide spectrum of possibilities and interpretations of a space where people come together, where stories are being told, where performances take place, and where entertainment merges with the notions of art and culture.”
