Orvay, Barcelona’s newest wine bar, has debuted adjacent to the Santa Maria del Mar, a historic Catalan Gothic church from the 14th century in the city’s El Born neighborhood. Designers Isern Serra and Sylvain Carlet teamed up for the interiors, which reference the winemaking process through a natural palette of materials and color.
Earthen tones reference vineyard landscapes and geography, while green hues call to mind vines. Pinkish colors are employed in the private dining room to recall the tonality of the grapes. False ceilings were removed by the storefront’s original entrance to reveal historic walls of stone reminiscent of fertile land. Natural oak floors and long oak benches juxtapose white marble elements. The minimalist approach is illuminated with circular lights and neon fixtures whose simple geometries further illustrate the process of winemaking.
