OTHER has joined the growing roster of design‑driven dining destinations in Dubai’s Dar Wasl community. The new concept from hospitality group the Food District is crafted to shift from daytime café to an evening venue.
Playing with high contrast at OTHER
Designed by Dubai-based studio VERHAAL, the interiors of OTHER reflect a philosophy of contrast: bold color gestures balanced by soft, tactile materials.
A blue‑and‑white checkered floor spans the restaurant, setting a graphic foundation for the design. A deep cobalt blue rises along the walls in the form of heavy velvet curtains, establishing a sense of drama that pairs with bold mix of red and blue seating.
Elevated wooden platforms introduce varied seating vignettes, while intimate nooks encased in chrome and furnished with bright red lounge chairs provide privacy.
Sculptural accents—including glass busts and art objects—appear throughout, supported by curved white sconces and irregularly shaped metal light fixtures that amplify the eatery’s expressive aesthetic.
“With OTHER, we wanted to build a place that feels good the moment you step in—not overly complicated, not trying too hard, just honest food and a space people enjoy being in,” says Mahmood Al Khamis, founder of the Food District. “Every concept we create has its own spirit, and OTHER carries that same sense of authenticity, but with a new kind of ease. It’s the kind of place we always felt was missing from the everyday dining landscape.”
