Swiss design firm Focketyn del Rio (FDR) Studio has completed its overhaul of a former concert hall in Basel, Switzerland with the unveiling of the new Parterre One Restaurant. The gastronomic concept joins Parterre One Music, the venue FDR Studio crafted during the first stage of the transformation in 2017.
Spanning more than 8,000 square feet, the restaurant greets visitors with an updated look that still honors its historical character. The firm chose to highlight the space’s original features, including dark floorboards and a big shelf showcasing books and magazines.
First constructed as a military barracks, the structure now features an open, internal courtyard that serves as a zone between the refurbished concert hall and the restaurant. The interior also reflects the palette of the updated red façade, with public areas on the two lower levels designed to reflect the same shade and warmth. Black elements and stainless steel features are configured to form a loop-like square around a central circulation core. Black MDF is used to create custom elements from the sculptural bar to the new buffet. Within the bar and dining room on the ground floor, the stainless steel kitchen is visible to diners from numerous angles. Two smaller private rooms span the first floor above as well.
