Oakland, California-based architecture and interior design studio Arcsine has completed its latest restaurant project, Petite Left Bank, on the Tiburon Peninsula in Marin County. The new French eatery draws upon a nature-heavy, bohemian sensibility synonymous with Paris’ past and present, while also reinterpreting the classic bistro aesthetic with a modern California twist. “We all loved working on this project and figuring out how to best utilize the small space and incorporate design elements that reference the beautiful Tiburon geography as well as Petite Left Bank’s French theme,” says Shuba Shekar, Arcsine’s intermediate architectural designer.
The ambiance of a Parisian café manifests through wooden seating, vintage antique mirrors, herringbone wood floors, and a pewter bar top. Black and white accent tiles animate the entrance and the bar for a dash of modernity, while wallcoverings in the dining room serve as the main focal point with a custom blue-gray hue and delicate toile detailing that depicts pigs sailing through Tiburon waterways.
Intimate and cozy, the eight-seat bar exudes sophistication with round pendant lighting and red barstools. A red banquette anchors the rear wall, showcasing authentic French caning below ornate gilded mirrors and tin acoustic panels that stretch across the ceiling. Large garage doors seamlessly connect the interior to the outdoor patio, balancing out the refined aesthetic with relaxed approachability.
