Proxi has arrived as the latest tenant on Chicago’s famed Restaurant Row, housed within a former print shop beside Sepia, the Michelin-starred eatery also launched by chef Andrew Zimmerman and Emmanuel Nony. New York-based design practice Meyer Davis Studio crafted the elegant, midcentury American brassie to feature an inviting aesthetic that embraces eclectic, globally inspired details.
Original architecture from the Werner Printing Company is preserved across the expansive interior. Inset with brass-framed mirrors, lightly washed wood spans the walls with rustic wood plank flooring. Custom cement tiles signal the switch from the bar and lounge area to the dining room, which is anchored by a long, central leather banquette. Additional leather booths are installed along the walls and beneath overhead, custom light fixtures that descend from the original barrel-vaulted ceilings. Clad with a stone top, leather upholstered face, and cerused wood accents, the central bar is positioned opposite the chef’s table, which is crafted from Noir St. Laurent marble.
