The first global outpost of Rech by Alain Ducasse, one of Paris’ most renowned seafood restaurants, has opened at the InterContinental Hong Kong. Crafted by Parisian architect and designer Marie Deroudilhe, the space reflects signature elements of Rech Paris, while also drawing influence from its new seaside location. Deroudilhe led the redesign of the Parisian restaurant in 2012.
The light and airy environment summons typical coastal imagery interpreted through the lens of Hong Kong. French designer Céline Wright handcrafted special lamps from 3,000 delicate small pieces of rice paper. The designs are reminiscent of floating clouds drenched in sunlight during the day and glowing Chinese lanterns in the evening.
Like the original location, the restaurant also includes bespoke driftwood-inspired seating and signature fish-centric artwork from French artist Jean-Pierre Guilleron made from fish prints on natural paper in the ancient Gyotaku Japanese fish printing technique. Each tabletop is anchored with natural rocks from the beaches of Brittany in northern France.
