Los Angeles-based Deirdre Doherty Interiors has completed its first hospitality project in LA’s Arts District. Reminiscent of Old Hollywood, the new eatery—Simone—is appointed with decadent Art Deco touches, vibrant colors, and unique lighting.
Housed within a former photography studio, Simone retains original elements such as the brick façade and concrete flooring to honor the setting while also infusing an industrial ambiance. Bronze and glass elements evoke elegance without compromising comfort. Simone also hosts the 25-seat bar Duello, which welcomes visitors with channeled leather seats, leaded glass windows, and antique mirrors that complement the interior’s 1920s-inspired theme. Bespoke brass and handblown glass lighting illuminates the path from the open kitchen and marble pastry area to the six-seat, walnut chef’s table, while skylights and handmade chandeliers shed light across the 75-seat dining room. Tufted velvet banquettes, spacious brass-edged walnut tables, and handsome tweed and leather chairs populate the space, along with dramatic, custom-stained glass and iron doors.
In the moody, 12-seat private dining room, handpainted burgundy walls are teamed with multi-armed glass and brass chandeliers. The ceilings of the additional private dining space are adorned with handpainted wallpaper clad with gold, black, and cream tones.
