Adelaide, Australia’s new fish and chips concept Smallfry Seafood has arrived in the heart of the South Australian city, updating the traditional aesthetic of seaside dining with a Japanese spin. Locally based firm Sans-Arc Studio oversaw the execution of the 450-square-foot urban environment.
The design echoes the characteristics of traditional fish shops with an updated palette of blue terrazzo counters, mottled gray travertine floors, and stained wood. Japanese seafood markets are also referenced through the material palette in homage to the heritage of the venue’s owner. The wooden façade contrasts the concrete and steel storefronts that line Waymouth Street. The dining room is punctuated with a curtain crafted from strips of transparent PVC, while a hanging shelf accommodates plates and potted plants.
