The Smith has expanded its lineup of American brasseries into the Washington, DC market with a new outpost in the nation’s capital Penn Quarter neighborhood. Locally based architecture firm //3877 collaborated on the design of the 271-seat eatery with New York design practice nemaworkshop.
Spanning more than 7,930 square feet, the new restaurant is crafted with steel grid wall tiles and ceiling soffits that complement natural wood and black and white hues. The backlit bar emits a warm glow, while retro pendant drop lights and chandeliers illuminate the geometric black and while motif across the floors. Comprising three rooms, the restaurant pairs its dark wood café tables with banquettes and leather nail head chairs.
The private dining room, meanwhile, pays homage to the city’s famed Union Station with a hexagonal wood paneling system on the ceiling for an injection of Old World glamour. Additional elements include rounded mirrors against wood cladding, frosted glass partitions, large rectangular mirrors, and open storage.
