Truss & Twine, the second concept from chef and owner Michael Beckman, has arrived in Palm Springs. New York-based architecture practice SOMA crafted the space as a dark juxtaposition to Beckman’s adjacent located eatery Workshop Kitchen + Bar.
SOMA bonds the two restaurants together in their material palettes, which includes poured concrete. The folding glass façade is a modern statement that opens out to the street. The dimly lit restaurant’s dramatic ambiance is anchored by a central square bar and exposed roof trusses (an homage to its namesake) that intersect for height and texture. The small, open kitchen at the bar maintains a connection across the interior, and promotes interaction between diners and chefs. The 78-seat space’s organic flow is conceived to promote socializing.
