James Beard-award winning chef, Sherry Yard has opened the Tuck Room Tavern in Los Angeles, designed by Studio K. The Chicago-based design firm partnered with Kalisher Studio, an art curating agency, to create thought-provoking pieces combining colonial American nuances with humorous elements. Historical art references are made using portraiture and fun, bold animal figures. The team also crafted a collection of different moldings for the pieces adding character to the art.
The dining room takes unexpected turns, encircling an energetic bar and includes checkered floors, tall leather and emerald velvet banquettes, crystal chandeliers, and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.
The restaurant features three separate and uniquely designed seating sections: the parlor, den, and conservatory. A quirky flare defines the intimate den, complete with novel décor like an oversized 8 Ball, an ornate guest book, and small statuettes referencing Hollywood’s Golden Era. Shadowbox tables and familial memorabilia fill the parlor, which also includes elaborate handpainted murals from Los Angeles-based artist Mike Stilkey made from recycled library books, colored pencils, paint, and lacquer. The conservatory—an outdoor patio—conveys the atmosphere of an open air lounge with luxurious red seating sections for casual dining and cocktails.
