Located in the heart of Toronto’s financial district, new seafood concept lbs. has debuted with designs from local firm Pencil. The elegant setting includes custom details honoring nautical and industrial themes.
Visitors are welcomed by largescale paintings from famed Aboriginal-Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau and from Whitney Bedford, whose piece depicts a dramatic shipwreck. The horseshoe-shaped, 32-seat bar serves as the focal point, illuminated on one side by geometric, pulley-like fixtures. Featuring oak accents and chairs upholstered in burnt orange and gray leather, the warm dining room also includes marble tables and teal leather banquettes. Staggered, buoy-shaped light fixtures descend from the ceiling to add intimacy to the dining experience.
Flooded with natural light, the street-facing lounge offers sidewalk views. Bathroom walls have been playfully adorned with custom wallpaper showcasing lobster claws and flowers, while floors feature colorful, geometric tiles.
A glass wall separates diners from the kitchen, putting the industrial venue’s polished tiles on display from every angle. A sustainable lobster tank is fitted into the corner of the kitchen, and the design also features a floor-to-ceiling wine cellar.
