The stately Corinthia London hotel has expanded its F&B lineup with Velvet, a new cocktail bar and lounge. Both the drink menu and the space reference a bygone era through a glitzy and modern interior design by David Collins Studio. “For me, Velvet will capture the essence of a mood—the spirit of intimacy, extravagance, and secluded indulgence,” says David Collins creative director Simon Rawlings. “It’s about a feeling, the discreet excitement through the pleasure of music and cocktails.”
Housed within Corinthia London’s former bar Bassoon, Velvet is aptly layered in upholstery that enlivens the interior with red and royal blue hues. Deep velvet curtains add a dash of glamour in tandem with convex mirrors and lavish lighting. Commissioned artwork by Robson Stannard also flanks the central marble fireplace and lines the intimate space.
“We are delighted to showcase our new bar Velvet, which will celebrate ‘joie de vivre,’ with a subtle nod to the golden age of cocktails but with a modern approach as well,” adds Thomas Kochs, managing director of Corinthia London. “Concealed behind rich, velvet curtains will be an elegant and thoughtfully designed setting for guests to meet and have fun, and where the lost art of cocktail making will be beautifully reimagined.”
