The Finnish Cultural Institute in New York commissioned the Zero Waste Bistro for WantedDesign during NYCxDesign. Helsinki- and Paris-based designer Linda Bergroth led the design along with furniture retailer Finnish Design Shop to highlight issues of waste and sustainability in the restaurant industry. The installation was on display until May 22nd, 2018.
The arched interior is crafted with recycled and renewable materials including Durat, a polyester surface material as well as a pre-finished interior wallboard composed entirely of recycled material. Nordic furniture and furnishings are installed throughout the eatery, whose surfaces are also created with granulated post-industrial waste that makes for a speckled design.
