MoMA commissions exhibition on Blackness and architecture

Exploring how race structures the largest cities in the U.S., Reconstructions: Architecture and Blackness in America is the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)’s first exhibition on the architecture of spaces in Black communities. Digging into segregated neighborhoods, compromised infrastructure, and local access to financial and educational facilities, 10 commissioned works by artists, designers, and architects—on display now through May 31st in New York—propose interventions in 10 different cities, including Miami; New Orleans; Syracuse, New York; and Oakland, California.
NeueHouse merges with photography museum Fotografiska

Private work and social space NeueHouse has merged with Fotografiska, an international photography museum based out of Stockholm, New York, and Tallinn, Estonia, to form CultureWorks, a new global growth platform aimed at hospitality brands. The combined platform is valued at $165 million. The announcement comes as NeueHouse plans to expand into Venice Beach, California, Miami, and add its first European location inside the Stockholm Fotografiska. The museum will also debut a Berlin outpost in 2022.
Travel search engine Kayak to open Miami Beach hotel in April

Partnering with New York hotel brand and management group Life House, popular travel search engine Kayak is readying its hotel debut with the Kayak Miami Beach, slated to open next month in a circa-1934 building previously occupied by the Life House Collins Park hotel. The 52-guestroom property will double as a design lab and test site for the company’s new app and other related software.
New York City restaurants can open to half capacity in a week

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this week that indoor dining at all New York City restaurants can expand from 35 to 50 percent capacity on March 19th. That same day, reports Eater, New Jersey will also expand to 50 percent capacity, continuing the states’ partnership as they weather the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the announcement, the rest of New York State’s restaurants were granted 75 percent capacity.
