Spanish hotel company Room Mate Hotels has debuted Room Mate Bruno, its first location in Rotterdam and second in the Netherlands. Room Mate remains on track to double its footprint by the end of 2019.
Housed within a 19th-century spice warehouse, Italian architect Teresa Sapey spearheaded the design of the 217-room Room Mate Bruno, which includes the addition of Foodhallen, one of the city’s newest gastronomic venues. The overall concept is characterized by geometric figures and unique color combinations on each floor. A secret frozen garden sits at the core of the property with blue and orange colors that complement a central orange tree.
“This project has been very exciting, not only because of the challenge, but also because the history that comes with the hotel. In Room Mate Bruno, we have kept the building’s naval identity, but we also wanted to take Spain’s sun, flavor, and colors to the Northern Europe. I love Bruno, and I’m certain that every person that gets to know it will enjoy Rotterdam in a very special way,” Sapey says.
Room Mate Hotels currently oversees a portfolio of 23 hotels across six countries.
