The Abbey Inn & Spa has debuted within a transformed convent in Peekskill, New York. Located in the Hudson Valley region, the luxury boutique concept features 42 guestrooms, as well as a 3,000-square-foot spa and the Apropos Restaurant & Bar, a fine-dining contemporary American eatery. Martin Ginsburg of Valhalla, New York-based Ginsburg Development Companies, spearheaded for the design and redevelopment of the new retreat.
Upon entering the lobby, visitors are greeted by an exhibition of Revolutionary-era items excavated from nearby Fort Hill that showcase the site’s history. Arched windows and an enclosed wraparound porch overlook the Hudson River. In addition to more than 5,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor event and meeting spaces—including two refurbished chapels—Apropos serves as a key social environment at the Abbey. A mix of comfortable seating, natural wood tables, and a four-season porch populate the interior dining room, while the bar area is stylishly anchored by a zinc-topped bar.
Spread across three floors, guestrooms comprise nine suites, 21 king rooms, and 12 superior rooms. Each accommodation features distinctive ceilings shaped by the convent’s former roof or window casements. Additionally, the rooms are accented by a soothing palette of cream and brown, and contemporary furnishings are installed alongside locally sourced artwork.
