Ace Hotel Group has announced that the Ace Hotel Kyoto is set to debut this spring. Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma in collaboration with longtime Ace partner Commune Design, the property will comprise both a new-build and the adaptive reuse of a historic volume originally designed by Tetsuro Yoshida. The 213-room hotel reflects the sophistication of the setting, complete with locally sourced artwork, numerous courtyards, and landscaped gardens.
“I intended to design a ‘cultural catalyst’ for various people to visit and create a seamless relationship with Kyoto’s community,” Kuma says.
While soaking tubs will serve as a staple among the hotel’s eight guestroom configurations, each layout will be distinguished with unique touches ranging from window seats in standard and deluxe king rooms to a dining, bar, and living area in the Ace suite. The Historic Double rooms will each be housed in the heritage building and come complete with separate living rooms.
