Amandayan, Aman’s third property in China, opened recently in Lijiang. The hotel, built near the UNESCO-protected Old Town, comprises courtyard buildings and 35 suites with terrace views of Lijiang.
“Adhering to the Aman philosophy, this property takes a one-of-a-kind location, explores every facet of its history, and incorporates culture, comfort and a personal touch to create a retreat that truly complements its surroundings,” says Aman CEO Olivier Jolivet.
Typical of Aman, the property’s design was inspired by its setting. Its courtyards contain between five and eight suites decorated with regional materials and fabrics such as Yunnan pine, Nakhi embroidery (representative of the indigenous culture), and Dongba wood carvings. Stone floors are a reference to the nearby mountains. Amandayan has preserve the onsite Wenchang Palace, which is located within a traditional courtyard that dates back to 1725.
Amandayan’s indoor restaurant, Man Yi Xuan, seats 88 and includes four private rooms, while the Tea House offers an outdoor setting. The spa includes a heated outdoor swimming pool located in the middle of its courtyard complex, and additional amenities include a large gym, yoga studio, and library. Meeting facilities adjacent to the library and a private cinema, with seating for 30, are also available.
