Aman announces the arrival of Amanyangyun, its fourth property in China and its first in Shanghai, set to debut next month. The 25-acre retreat will embrace its bucolic setting along with the cosmopolitan sensibility of the nearby city.
Singapore- and Perth, Australia-based Kerry Hill Architects, which also designed the Aman Tokyo, repurposed 50 disassembled antique houses to create the resort’s 26 dwellings. Thirteen of the homes will be reimagined as four-bedroom Antique villas, spanning between 8,500 and 11,000 square feet. Each will include a private pool and Jacuzzi as well as a courtyard. An additional 12 houses will be restored and converted into Aman Residences.
In addition to the villas, 24 expansive and sundrenched Ming Courtyard suites will be appointed with refined wooden interiors and the Aman brand’s signature Asian-influenced minimalism. Each 700-square-foot accommodation will pay homage to the classic structure of the Chinese courtyard home with two spacious private courtyards attached to each one.
The central pavilion, Nan Shu Fang, will mirror the scholarly studios of the 17th century, complete with wooden furniture akin to those from the Ming dynasty. Along with a children’s meeting ground, six rooms installed across the courtyard will be dedicated to tea and incense ceremonies. The 30,500-square-foot Aman Spa will house eight treatment rooms, two double spa suites, relaxation areas, a sauna, plunge pool, Jacuzzi, and two swimming pools. Two private spa houses will offer thermal facilities, such as a Russian banya and Turkish hammam. A fitness center and yoga and pilates studio will also be included.
The Chinese restaurant Lazhu will pay homage to the traditions of the Jiangxi province and include ingredients sourced from Amanyangyun’s 2,150-square-foot organic herb and vegetable garden. The lakeside eatery Nama will embrace Japan’s washoku tradition, while the neighboring Arva is warm and convivial. Meanwhile, the Bar will feature an antique fireplace and a cigar lounge appointed with copper and oak accents. Additional amenities include a 25-seat cinema and a 200-seat Banqueting Room with floor-to-ceiling windows.
