Ambiente, a Landscape Hotel has debuted as part of the reactivation of an ancient waterway system in Sedona, Arizona. Spread across three acres of Red Rock Country, the landscape hotel—imagined by Jennifer May and Colleen TeBrake of Two Sister Bosses—was developed with a minimal impact to the land. The landscape design by San Diego-based Krizan Associates focuses primarily on the preservation of existing vegetation.
“We wanted to achieve the sights and background sounds of a gently babbling brook that would contribute to the ambience of the guest experience,” says Krizan principal John Krizan, “so rather than build a man-made water feature that would adversely impact the land, we found a way to reactivate the existing stream channels to create an eco-balanced habitat that will cover nearly one-fifth of an acre of the property.”
An emphasis on organic architecture complements the surrounding topography, while sleek minimalist interiors evoke intimacy and elegance. Ambiente comprises 40 cubic guest atriums elevated above the rocky terrain on steel piers that frame panoramic views of Sedona and the nearby Coconino National Forest via floor-to-ceiling bronze-toned glass walls. Each 576-square-foot accommodation, crafted by ASUL Architects, is composed of matte-charcoal colored metal, live-edge wood furnishings, and bespoke wallpaper. Décor further reinforces a bond with nature through contemporary earth tones. Petite kitchens, black soaking bathtubs, and mood lighting infuse an upscale ambiance as well. Guests can soak beneath the sun and the stars from private rooftop decks populated with lounge seating, firepits, and daybeds and accessible through a secure staircase.
The central main lobby building houses the five-room Velvet Spa, while the signature modern American restaurant Forty1 serves an additional nucleus for Ambiente. The Drifter, the hotel’s fast-casual Airstream concept, is situated just off Forty1 alongside a lagoon-inspired pool lined with private cabanas.
