Anantara Hotels & Resorts will make its debut in Japan with Anantara Karuizawa Retreat, a 51-key resort slated to open in 2030 in the storied mountain town of Karuizawa, located in Nagano Prefecture.
The project is being developed through a partnership between Royal Minor Hotels—a joint venture between Royal Holdings Co., Ltd. and Minor Hotels—and List Development Co., Ltd.
A design rooted in nature
Nestled on a 10-acre forested site facing the dramatic peaks of Mount Asama, the upcoming resort is envisioned as a tranquil, design-led sanctuary that reflects Anantara’s signature commitment to personalized luxury and cultural immersion.
The hotel will be designed to harmonize with the natural landscape, with architectural elements—like exposed timber beams and expansive windows—that invite sweeping mountain views. It will be home to 23 suites and a collection of two- and three-bedroom villas, some of which may be offered as branded residences in future phases.
Offerings at Anantara Karuizawa Retreat
The property’s wellness-forward programming will be anchored by an Anantara Spa and traditional Japanese onsen, alongside a fitness center, swimming pool, library, and residents’ lounge.
Three culinary concepts—including an all-day dining venue, a specialty restaurant, and a bar—will round out the hospitality offering.
Anantara Karuizawa Retreat will also include flexible meeting facilities to accommodate corporate gatherings and events.
