andBeyond has expanded its footprint beyond the African continent for the first time with the debut of andBeyond Vira Vira in the Lake District of Chile. Set upon more than 50 acres at the threshold of Patagonia, the lodge reflects the collaborative design of owner Michael and Claudia Paravicini alongside various local architects and designers.
Crafted mainly from lenga wood and wrapped with large windows to reinforce the natural setting, the Vira Vira lodge is home to 12 villas, six suites, and a five-room hacienda appointed with locally sourced furnishings like textured Chilean rugs, handwoven tapestries, Mapuche artifacts, and restored antiques. The ancient wisdom of the local Mapuche people also influenced the design and ethos of the lodge, which hosts an upscale restaurant and alfresco dining along the banks of the Liucura river. Equipped with air conditioning and under-floor heating, the lodge features additional amenities such as an organic vegetable garden, a library, two hot tubs, a retail concept, and a spa.
