Angama Mara safari lodge has opened in Kenya’s Maasai Mara region.
Helmed by Steve and Nicky Fitzgerald, the property comprises two separate small-scale camps just outside the Oloololo Escarpment. Each site includes 15 tented guest suites with 30-foot-wide floor-to-ceiling glass fronts.
Positioned more than 1,000 feet above the Great Rift Valley, the property’s name is inspired by the Swahili word for “suspended in mid-air.”
Architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens designed each tented suite to sit on the edge of the escarpment, while South African designer Annemarie Meintjes conceived the interiors with a clean aesthetic; the tents were crafted by locally based canvas master Jan Allan.
Game viewing in the Mara Triangle reserve is available year-round and is accessible via a private track. The lodge’s pavilion area is set between the two camps and features a fitness center, 40-foot-long swimming pool, curated gallery of African art, retail outlets, and a studio where Maasai women bead bespoke items.
