Ace Hotel Group is headed to Canada with the launch of Ace Hotel Toronto in the fall 2020. The brand’s maiden property in the country will be located at Toronto’s Fashion District within a new-build, designed in partnership with locally based Shim-Sutcliffe Architects and the brand’s in-house creative agency Atelier Ace.
Home to 124 accommodations, the upcoming Ace hotel will pay homage to the neighborhood’s vernacular of industrial structures through materials such as redbrick and exposed board-formed concrete. Further architectural details like exposed joints, knuckles, and bricks will function as key focal points, while the insertion of douglas fir over steel as a decorative element will aim to emphasize the multi-layered personality of the city.
“We worked together with Atelier Ace, who we share core values with, to build a civic space that feels warm and welcoming,” Shim-Sutcliffe Architects says in a statement. “With its public spaces conceived as local spots to gather, Ace Hotel Toronto is a contribution to the neighborhood and city itself through form and materials featured inside, and it will constantly draw energy from the visitors and local crowd.”
